Description
Located on Carmel Hill, Park Güell was commissioned by Eusebi Güell in the early 20th century as part of an initial ambitious project to create a gated community. The residential part was never completed but Gaudí transformed the area into one great masterwork effecting a communion between architecture and nature. With its view of the city, the vivid terrace, propped up by undulating columns, forms the central point of the park's structures even as it stands proudly and exclusively.
This lively park is named after Eusebi Güell, as originally conceived by Gaudí as an exclusive residential area for the aristocracy of Barcelona. After Gaudí's death in 1926, however, it became a public space, being the home of the architect for twenty years before.
In the Park Güell Monumental Zone, discover a whimsical world in which man-made forms and natural elements lie in easy tandem. From elaborate façades to eye-catching mosaic patterns and the famed Serpent Bench, everything tempts this invitation: Take a picture. Add in the spectacular skyline view of Barcelona and there's nowhere to turn your head without noticing beautiful sights.
Note: Casa Gaudí Museum tickets for the ex-residence of Gaudí in Park Güell are required to access.
Park Güell intends to carry tourism without compromising the local life. Hours of park use for visitors run 9:30 to 20:00 as part of sustainable management; residents reserve morning and evening hours for their sports and leisure activities in the park.
