Description
Explore Palau Güell, one of the earliest masterpieces of Antoni Gaudí, located in the heart of the old Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. The importance that Palau Güell carries stems from the blend of avant-garde functions, such as elaborate ironwork and whimsical chimney tops, which mark his earliest experimental entrance into the realms of architectural innovation.
It was designed for the rich industrial Eusebi Güell, and it is one of Antoni Gaudí's first works for the community. The design includes all the characteristic genius so expected of the famed architect. Guests can experience exceptional use of light and space.
It also possesses such significant interior spaces where Gaudì stated his genius in the expression of the merging of functionality and art. The main hall, or salon, has an exquisite domed ceiling in the ornamented designs that appear to have been floating over the heads of the visitors. This part was remitted to a purpose-specific music performance and symposium, consistent with the demand to create an impressive venue before which guests could display the splendor and the sounds heard within.
It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984 and is one of the seven associated with Gaudi.
